Do you know what happens to someone that you love or somebody that you're in an intimate relationship with when they get arrested for domestic violence in New York City? If the answer is no, you're going to want to watch this three-part series where we're going to discuss exactly what happens to somebody when they get arrested from the time an arrest happens to the time that they are released from court following arraignment. Hey guys, Jeff Greco. I wanted to talk to you today about what happens, specifically, what happens in New York City when you get arrested for a domestic violence case. When someone is transported to an NYPD precinct following an arrest, similar to the 19th precinct behind me, a number of things are going to occur when the suspect arrives at the precinct. Number one, they're going to be fingerprinted. After the fingerprinting, they're going to be photographed. After that point, they're going to actually begin the initial paperwork that will be later sent to the court at central booking. Everybody always asks, how long does it take for my loved ones when they get transported to the precinct? Do they get out soon? The answer is no, they do not. Typically, it's going to be at least four hours, if not more, at the precinct before they're ever even transported to central booking. We'll talk about central booking in a completely separate video, which will actually be part two. But what happens at the precinct is generally not very much outside of the fingerprinting and the photographing. It's a lot of waiting around. At that point, you're waiting for the arresting officer to transport the suspect downtown to central booking, where they're going to start the actual case paperwork. That takes hours and hours, sometimes beyond an actual date. The most important thing that you can do is, well, number one is hire an attorney to start the paperwork and to get this process started. But what you should not do is do not go to the precinct. Do not go there thinking that I can ask to speak with my loved ones, I can see them, and we can figure out what's going on, because the desk sergeant or the arresting officer is going to tell you flatly, no, they are not entitled to any kind of visit at this time. Also, when you go to the precinct, you do not want to go to the precinct thinking that you can convince the arresting officer or the sergeant that the charges should be dropped because there's no evidence. They're going to tell you this is not the time or the place. This is going to be up to the prosecuting attorney and their office later on. So for now, we're not going to do that. What they're going to tell you is the case is being filed. The district attorney's office is going to take the file and they're going to run with it at that point and they will decide what to do at that point. All you can do at this point is wait until the officer transports the suspect to central booking. In the meantime, when you hire a private attorney, somebody like myself will get on the case. We will file a notice of appearance with the court advising them that we have been retained to handle this case and the paperwork will be done. So what happens at central booking where you got to stay tuned to part two, in which we will discuss everything that's going to happen at central booking in part two.
